Prospect Cemetery

Prospect Cemetery in Ebony surrounds Prospect United Methodist Church on the north, east, and south sides at 1974 Ebony Rd, Ebony, VA. It is managed by Prospect Cemetery Association (PCA) and not Prospect Church. The mailing address is Prospect Cemetery Association, PO Box 29, Ebony, VA 23845. See the Officers and Directors below for points of contact.

PCA Membership, Annual Expenses, and Funding

When you purchase burial plots from the PCA or are associated with an old family section, you become a member of the PCA. The cemetery is funded by donations from PCA membership, memorial donations, and the sale of burial plots. A perpetual care fund is being developed with the intent that returns from that investment will eventually cover the annual expenses. Annual expenses for upkeep depend on continuing donations.

Questions, Plot Purchases, and Donations

If you are interested in purchasing plots or have questions, please contact Anne Hartley, PCA President, at 919-602-5012 or ahartley1009@gmail.com. To make a tax-deductible donation, please make checks payable to Prospect Cemetery Association and mail to Prospect Cemetery Association, PO Box 29, Ebony, VA 23845. Download PCA Guidelines with pricing and purchase instructions.

More About Prospect Cemetery Association

In 1991, the cemetery land that was not already deeded to specific families was transferred to Prospect Cemetery Association (PCA). The PCA also assumed responsibility for the upkeep for all of the cemetery including the family-deeded sections. The initial PCA Board of Directors included Lucy M. Nash (founder), Pauline S. Moseley, Robert H. Conner, and Mary H. Lynch. A commemorative marker as shown was erected in 2018.

In 2021, the association which had been an unincorporated association since its beginning was transitioned to a non-stock corporation to modernize the legal structure recommended for a cemetery association. The new Articles also clarify that the PCA  falls into Section 501(c)(13) of the Internal Revenue Code as a non-profit, tax-deductible organization. The Bylaws were also revised and restated.
